Scent Pod

Olfactory art installation exhibited at Sleepless Festival, Footscray in 2024, and Something Unlimited 2020 at the Northcote Town Hall, Melbourne.

"Scent Pod" showcases handmade giant origami seed pods that release the energising scent of lemon-scented eucalyptus, distilled from trees here in Footscray.

The scent pods are based on an elegant design from the Japanese origami expert Jun Mitani. The scent is sourced from lemon-scented gum (corymbia citriodora) trees found in Footscray. After a storm, fallen leaves were collected and distilled in a traditional copper alembic still, with assistance from Eva Reid of The Leafsmith and Nichola Prested at the Handmaker’s Factory. The resulting hydrosol and essential oil capture the essence of the local landscape, infusing the installation with an uplifting aroma that connects visitors with their environment.
